Drywall repair cost examples for Greater Cincinnati
A small opening still needs setup, finishing and cleanup. Ceiling work can take more effort than wall work. Use these examples as a starting point for your project budget.
| Example project | Planning range |
|---|---|
| 6 × 6 inch wall opening | $250.00–$500.00 |
| 12 × 12 inch wall opening | $250.00–$525.00 |
| 24 × 24 inch wall opening | $250.00–$675.00 |
| 24 × 24 inch ceiling opening | $250.00–$950.00 |
Includes estimated repair labor and materials. Assumes damaged board already removed, leak resolved, a dry smooth area, normal access and no insulation or framing work. Ceiling examples assume 8 feet from floor. Primer, paint and removal are excluded. One $250 project minimum is included. Final contractor quotes can fall outside these ranges.
For planning purposes only. This estimated range assumes work performed by a properly insured contractor. It is not an official quote and does not represent any contractor’s actual charges. Your contractor’s price may be higher or lower based on materials, project conditions and their assessment. This calculator does not verify a provider’s insurance.

Replacing drywall after a resolved leak
Replacement drywall after a resolved leak, with damaged drywall already removed, a dry repair area, and no known mold. Installation is only part of the work: fastening replacement board, taping joints, applying joint compound, allowing it to dry, and sanding can require multiple finishing visits.
If the leak is unresolved, surfaces are still wet, damaged material is still in place, or mold may be present, an assessment is needed before we can calculate a reliable range. This calculator adds no invented allowance for those conditions.
What affects the cost?
Openings & setup
One larger opening and several smaller openings can need different finishing effort. Setup and finishing visits should be shared across the project, not charged as separate full project minimums per opening.
Wall or ceiling
Ceiling work, height, access, and matching existing texture can change the scope. Restricted access, missing insulation, and suspected framing damage need assessment.
Finishing & painting
A repair ready for primer and paint stops before coating. Painting the patch covers a different area than painting the entire affected wall or ceiling.
Choose the finish you need
Ready for primer and paint: replacement board, taping, compound, sanding, and the configured finishing workflow.
Prime and paint repaired area: add coating of the repaired area. Patch-only painting may remain visible because of color, sheen, texture, or aging differences.
Prime repair and paint the whole surface: prime the repaired area, then paint the separately measured affected wall or ceiling. This does not mean painting an entire room.
When a repair needs an assessment
A single removed wall opening with smooth edges, dry framing, and no exposed insulation may fit the basic repair scenario. Several openings on the same surface can share setup and finishing visits. A ceiling opening with unknown insulation or visible framing damage needs assessment instead of a manufactured range.
How to measure
Measure each opening in total inches. A 12 by 14 inch opening can be entered as 12 and 14, with no feet required. You can switch to feet and inches for larger measurements. Add each opening once. If painting an entire wall or ceiling, measure that surface separately; do not use the opening size as the whole painting area.
Common questions
How much does professional drywall repair cost?
The current model starts with a $250 total project minimum. The example table shows model-generated wall and ceiling ranges with labor and materials included, before primer and paint. See the example table for assumptions; these are planning estimates, not surveyed market averages.
Does ceiling repair cost more than wall repair?
Often, because overhead installation and finishing can need more effort. Select ceiling and enter its height so the calculator can check the supported access scope.
Does the range include painting?
Only when selected. Ready for primer and paint excludes coatings. Patch painting covers the repair area; whole-surface painting uses a separate measurement.
Does this include fixing the leak?
No. The leak must be fixed and damaged drywall removed first. Water mitigation, mold treatment, structural repair, and damaged-material removal are excluded.
Do I need to enter contact details?
Yes. Name, email, and ZIP code are collected before revealing a personalized result. The form conspicuously discloses the result email and occasional pricing-guide subscription. Contractor-call consent is separate and unchecked.
Do I have to provide a phone number?
Only if you request a contractor call. Subscription alone does not authorize contractor sharing.
What if I have already unsubscribed?
A new calculator request must not silently reactivate marketing. Your requested result can be fulfilled while your existing marketing suppression remains in place.
Is this a contractor quote?
No. This is a planning range, not a contractor quote. Final pricing depends on verified scope and site conditions.
Will I definitely receive an email immediately?
